1:41HostEddie, last time we recorded it was like one year ago at Viper Room. It was, I think, September or something. Do you remember?
1:52HostOur recording session last time was like the perfect setup because we were outside on the table. It was dark, super quiet. The sound was going all the way. No, no, no, no echoes or anything like this.
2:09HostIt's one of my favorite interviews. I keep reminding it and telling people about it, you know, because for me it was really important.
2:20HostYeah, and you played really awesome. I remember it was fucking awesome. So, all right, let's come back to reality, right? Sure.
2:28HostSo, one year ago, so, I mean, I know because I did research, there's a lot of stuff happened. Sure. So, let's start with the basic one, the lineup change. Sure.
2:39?What's up with that?
2:49HostActually, I think, so we recorded in October, let's pretend at least. And then two months later, when you came back home, there was a change.
3:05HostYou don't, no, we don't need to go, like, in detail why or something like this. Sure. No problem, man, about that. But just to introduce the guy, man.
3:34HostFrom the same region?
3:38HostAnd still based in Portland? Yeah, we're still based in Portland, but we're all over the place, you know, we've been touring like crazy.
3:43?But yeah, we're all still based in Portland, we've just got, like, a new headquarters there that's really cool. And, yeah, and the chemistry's been on fire between the three of us, so we've just been going with it, and it's been really fun.
3:54HostAll right, but two things. Okay, you said new headquarters, you mean like a studio? Yeah, yeah, totally. Oh, I think last time you, what was the name of the studio when you recorded? 3-8, some, what?
4:11HostWhatever, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, what about the new headquarters? Because you mentioned that new headquarters, it's important. What is it?
4:26?Why?
4:47HostMan, but, you know, for me from outside, you know, thinking like Portland, you know, this is like a place where it's like an iconic place. It should be like filled with high quality shit.
5:15HostDo you need windows?
5:24?Yeah.
5:24HostClassic practice room.
5:53HostYeah, I mean, it's really important. So, you have everything there. How did you find it?
6:03HostI know the band. I know the band. I know the band.
6:06?Shout out to the band.
6:25HostTotally, I mean, it's awesome. Oh, it's cool to have like some stability in that regard. Yeah, it's really nice.
6:33?All right.
6:34HostSo, headquarters, right? Okay, we got this, right? So, there's a checklist in my head, you know. All right, all right, all right. So, Harry, Dirty Harry, right? Okay. So, you know him for some time, right? Like, he wrote, he was on the record with you, right?
7:47HostWhen the time came, it was a perfect situation.
7:52HostHow was it for Harry? I mean, where did he play before?
8:13HostDrums and stuff, always?
8:30HostYou need to explain it to me because I don't know what it is.
9:11HostWhich song? Can we, like, can you remember? Yeah.
9:18?Okay.
9:54HostDude, like, the album is fucking awesome. Oh, thanks. Yeah, yeah. I'm glad you like it. For real, for real, for real. I think it's, like, it's different and beyond. Wow.
10:07HostI would say, like, this, it's different from your previous stuff. Sure. I mean, we have Laoka singing, like, more extensive. You're doing your crazy shit with the guitar even more. Sure. Like, Total Annihilator is, like, this is, like, fucking awesome, you know?
10:23HostIf you're going to play it live tonight, you're going to destroy the crowd, man. Cool.
10:27?Right on.
10:27HostNo, the whole album is, the Harris drumming is amazing. Like, the whole album is really cool. It's really, really, really cool. Awesome. Really cool. Really cool. Really cool. I really like it. I'm not joking. I really like it. I want to see you play it live. Because we're recording before the show.
10:51HostI wanted to interview them also. But, yeah. Shout out to Omega Sun. Absolutely. They're also a really cool band from Slovenia.
11:05HostShit happens. Shit happens. Shit happens.
11:11HostNice. Well, well, well. But with Omega Sun, I will, when they come to Vienna again, I will interview them. Absolutely.
11:22HostOkay. I checked out social media regarding the new album.
11:26?Yeah.
11:26HostWhat I noticed, the magic words, analog as fuck.
11:32HostSo, tell me, like, what about the production? What was it? Well, we were really fortunate this time around with recording.
13:52?So that's how you did it.
13:58HostAnalog as fuck. Exactly. But yeah, man, tubes are the shit.
14:16HostQuantization, man. Did you quantize some shit?
14:38HostIf I was afraid that you're going to say, we did some, some auto-tune, I would fucking murder you right now.
14:53HostAnd you have it. You have it. You have it on the album. You have it on the record, you know? Like, what I like, like, I know when the music works, when I get the feel beyond the music, you know? Like, when it opens, like, sonic environment, imagination environment, you know, like, when I listen to the music and I don't even listen to the music, I experience, like, the world and shit, you know? Cool. That's how I got it, you know? Like, I have goosebumps right now. Wow. It's like, good shit. No, I'm telling you, like, I'm not joking, man.
15:24HostIt's good, good shit, you know?
15:26?Before I forget, like, okay, you got all this freedom, right? With all the equipment, did you, you know, there's always a chance that you will get
15:35Hostlost in it, you know? Absolutely. Like, so many opportunities to do and you forget who you are, you know? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, in your voice and stuff.
15:45HostSome limits are always important.
16:20HostThe energy runs a little bit away.
16:28HostI mean, that's the thing about going, the voice is going away, you know? Energy, voice, vision.
16:54HostDude, you're going through, like, the thing, like, the bands, like, you know, like, the first album, they do, like, not commercially, but pleasing everybody in a way. And then when it works out, the second album, it's like, this is the real sound of our band. Sure. You know?
17:57HostHow long were you in the studio?
17:59?Oh, man. I think.
18:07HostThat's a lot. Yeah.
18:18HostDid you manage to experiment on something that you always wanted to do? Like something that you, like, okay, finally I can do this on this album. Like if you, maybe, I mean, I know that you have a collection of riffs and stuff that you're constantly composed of, but maybe it's something that you're like, okay, maybe with this equipment I can do this and that or...
18:40HostMaybe it's nothing ordinary, but for the people outside, that's like a, like just the way it sounds, it's already like not ordinary.
18:54HostI call it, I call it like a, you plug a soul to the amp, you know, and that's it.
19:01HostThe best way how you can record it.
19:23Hostwith that stuff, you know, and especially Jeremy with, with the engineering and placement of
19:42HostHow about this, someone like this border of, uh, uh, how much of, of opinion of everybody like, like from the last time, you know, with the border or something, where's the, where's the, where's the, but I think you've, I don't know what you did, but you figured it out, I think it was this album.
19:59HostUm, reviews are good. It's, everybody likes it. I think the crowd will love it also like, uh, live. I mean, like I, I've seen you live, so I, I know that like, it's, you, you're a fucking killer.
20:40HostEspecially, I told everybody like, like who were like standing outside that you should come close to the stage. Sure. Because when you feel like the, the, the, the energy from all the people in the, like last time I was there, I was like, this was amazing.
20:51?Right on. Yeah. Fucking awesome.
20:54?All right.
20:54HostSo, um, uh, album release, right? So the plan right now is, uh, you're going to tour, promote this album, right? Yeah. Do you have something? I mean, I usually ask about the plans and stuff, right? Right. But you just, the album just came out. Sure. I don't know what to ask you regarding.
21:41HostYeah, you do good shit. I, I've seen your photographs and then the video. I know, I know you. Okay. Yeah.
21:51HostDo more with the, with the, with the, with the lens where it's like a hexagonal because
22:19HostTry it out. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. Like, because I know that you're technically like, like really cool, right? If you can do it, like to explain some stuff that you do. Yeah. To, to teach at somebody, that would be cool. Yeah. That would be cool. I know that your level is high. So for somebody to, to, to, to, to learn, that would be really cool.
22:48HostYou know, I interviewed the Melvins and they said, we're never touring the winter. Fuck that. You know, like only in, on summer, we're going to be doing like a big homecoming show in Portland
23:05?We have a lot of stuff like ideas brewing and, and, uh, we, but we've never had the time to, you know, obviously we just got done with this record. So we haven't had the time to really start, you know, writing together. Um, and I know we're all really excited to do that, especially Harry because, cause he'll be here from ground zero, you know, like where it's coming in from the last record, a lot
24:05HostSo yeah, we're, yeah, that's, that's, that's how we should do it actually. You know, I have no, no, nothing to say against it. No, it's like really like, yeah, yeah. Because usually like sometimes I like interview bands. I was like, what's the new albums coming out or what? I was like, I'm in half a year. I mean, yeah, of course, of course, physically it's hard, but it kind of feels like they're like drifting a little bit.
24:40HostThere's no money, man. So yeah. It's only like life and merch and that's it.
25:04HostSacrifice, man. A lot of sacrifice. Yeah. For the shit that you believe in.
25:25HostI mean, you never know. Maybe we'll hit a certain point. I mean.
25:30HostEspecially, especially people see that you're working hard and the music is good. And, you know, like, you just need, man, you just need to push, man. That's it. That's it.
25:41HostYou've been in LA. You were living in the car.
25:47HostAll right. That's a good, that's like a good motivator. It's like, actually the whole interview is like a motivation or like a space, you know, like to keep on the road and continue doing. Which song from the new album should I put at the end of the interview?
