0:14KonstantinHey, I'm Konstantin. I'm the singer of Glaze Curtains and a guitar player.

0:17MaximI'm Maxim, the drummer of Glaze Curtains.

0:19DreI'm Dre and also the guitar player, the second one.

0:22MatejAnd I'm Matej. I play bass.

0:24HostAll right. We were just talking that we've seen each other more than one year. We're actually at the same place at Flex. And yesterday your new album came out. And today it's a celebration party, right? For the album. And I had a chance to listen to the album a little bit earlier than other people. And I really dig the album. For real. No shit.

0:47?Thanks.

0:48HostI think it's your best album. I think it's your best album. And I think you have a really nice sound. And a really cool sound. And I was thinking today, even before coming here, that even because all the songs on the album are really good, even one of the singles becomes really popular, right? You have enough material and enough stuff to like become viral or some shit, you know? I don't know like a viral, but like, you know, like, yeah.

1:20KonstantinWe're definitely going to go places, I think, I'd say.

1:24DreYou're always hoping for your last album, like your newest album to be the best you've ever done. So I think we did it. We achieved something there.

1:33HostYeah. So let's talk about what's first. You came just from the tour, right? So you were like just before the album dropped yesterday. And you were on the tour in Europe, like too many cities. How was that?

1:47MaximMan, it was amazing. It was amazing. Like we did two legs. One is a headline thing. Another one we played support for the band Leap. Shout out. Shout out to the boys. It was great, man. Overall, like great energy, great people. We met so many lovely people, man. It was actually insane.

2:03HostI heard that some audience already knew lyrics to your music already at some point in Czech Republic or something.

2:10KonstantinYeah, it was Prague. It was like insane. Like, you know, we went there. We didn't really expect too much because it was the first time playing there.

2:20MaximPeople showed up, man. That was crazy. We didn't think too many people would actually show up. Yeah, we didn't know how Prague is like.

2:28?You're so young. Yeah.

2:29DreYeah, we were pleasantly surprised. It was kind of nice. And also, yeah, like Constance said, like seeing other people we don't know, singing our lyrics is crazy, actually. I mean, it takes time to learn the lyrics of someone else.

2:41HostSo the whole, did you play already like the music from the new album on the tour?

2:47MaximSome songs. Some songs we played. Some songs we tried out live, you know.

2:52?We played quite a bit from the new album, actually.

2:56MaximThey were released already. Like the unreleased ones we didn't play that much, but like.

3:00HostLike how many songs were? Like four, right? Before, like Apexis? It was four songs. Yeah. So, all right. It was like a warm up for the show that happens in like a couple of hours, right? So, how are you feeling? Like, I heard that you're going to make like a great show like tonight. Like you do some visuals, some, some, some. Matej is doing some visuals, right? Yeah, we did some visuals for the LED wall. Yeah. So, we're super hyped for that. It's funny. We always saw it on the computer screen. And now to see it on the big screen, it's kind of spooky. I hope I didn't cut anything wrong or anything. I hope there's no mess up there, but we're fucking hyped for that for the light. I mean, if you're going up, bro.

3:40?We'll find out. I mean, if there's like a blue screen of death, it's going to be also pretty cool. Like, like, like something. If it fails, it should fail epically, right? We also, we also have Danny from Monoke doing our lights tonight as well.

3:58HostAre you feeling nervous before this gig? Is it special gig, right?

4:05MaximIt's crazy because I couldn't sleep last night. Like, we came back from Munich yesterday and I was pretty tired when I got into the flat. And then, like, I stayed up, like, to two or three. And normally, I go to bed at 11, 12 o'clock, you know? So, it was like, I was just sipping beer on my own. My wife was already sleeping. And I was just sipping beer watching Keith Capici live. It was because I was so nervous and I couldn't sleep, man. So, I don't know.

4:28HostWell, this album is about personal feelings and opening your inner wounds to the world. So, this is like a part of the thing, right?

4:38KonstantinYeah, definitely, actually. That describes, that literally describes what it's about a bit as well. Because, like, just, like, overthinking your stuff and dealing with the stuff that's inside of your mind.

4:48HostBut if you don't feel nervous, there's something wrong. Because, like, it means that you don't care. No.

4:54KonstantinI mean, like, normally, that's what I was saying. Like, I don't feel nervous yet. Because normally, like, I only, I do feel a bit nervous. Like, normally, it comes, like, right before when I go on stage. And it's, like, kicks, like, nothing out of nowhere. Yeah. So, that's the moment when I get nervous.

5:08HostSo, this album. I said, it's a really cool album. And you went for neo-emo, I call it. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

5:21HostNeo-emo. Neo-emo. Neo-emo, right.

5:28HostBecause it doesn't, I mean, when I compare it to emo, I compare it to the emotional themes. And the thing, like, that's behind from the music. Yeah. I'm not making fun of the emo's, you know.

5:44DreNo, not at all. It's definitely a personal one. We love emo's.

5:49HostYeah, we love emo's.

5:51MaximI was an emo myself when I was, like, 12, 13.

5:55MaximIt's a very depressed person.

6:07MatejThat's some emo stuff right there. That's some emo shit right there, the Twilight. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.

6:12HostI don't even need to ask what's the base for the album.

6:19HostI don't need to ask additional questions. That's it. So, but probably it's your, the most honest album until this point, probably, right? And why this album and not the previous? Like, did something happen that's, that's, that's the... Sorry. Yeah, I mean, like, I heard somewhere, like, or in the interviews that you consider this, like, a proper first album. Not sure, but...

6:50Konstantinbut this is, like, I think we, we, we just figured out the sound a bit more this time and there's, like, a, like a sound that goes through the whole album and it's, like, I don't know, it's, like, more like a one big piece instead of, like, a lot of different songs.

7:06MatejYou could say the last one album was, like, a compilation of sounds that we worked with and with different producers, different producers, different vibes. But now we just focus, like, Max produced, Max and Cons, like, made the fuck out of it, Max produced the fuck out of it.

7:22MaximI mean, to give, to give credit, like, my, my favorite song of the album is produced by Matei, the legend himself. So I'm, like, I'm very grateful that we all could work together on this one.

7:32MatejI did a little thing there, but, but bro, you, you guys did a madness, you guys did a madness on the production and the sound is so, it's uniform, not, like, the last, like, the last time was a compilation, like, which is dope.

7:45KonstantinTalking about the album and the sound, big shout out to Tom Leach. He mixed the whole album, so. From London, right? Yeah, he's a guy from the UK. We got to know him over, over Leap, because he's also the producer from Leap and he's a great guy, shout out, shout out to him.

7:58HostThat's how you know, the Leap guy.

8:00MaximLike, we, we, we supported Leap, like, last year in Vietnam, then we met Tom and he's just

8:11KonstantinYeah, and he's also, he's digging the sound. Yeah, he's great.

8:14MaximHe understands the sound.

8:16HostWhen you were making this album, did you have, like, two things, right? So, first, technical limitations, you know, like, you knew that the theme, kind of, you knew where the theme is going, right? But did you know whether the sound is going to go or it was a discovery, kind of?

8:32MaximDefinitely in the process, definitely in the process. But we had our inspirations, like, we all discovered pretty cool bands over the last year. And so that, like, Keith Capici, for example. For example. It's, like, a big influence on the album. Like, for me, it was, like, drumming, drum sound-wise, I orientated towards them. And I was, like, pretty happy, I'm pretty happy how it turned out, you know?

8:51?Okay.

8:52HostWas there a specific part of the album that was really hard to make or a song or maybe, like, a personal reason, you know, was there, like, a topic when you had, it was hard to open up? You would decide to go full in with the lyrics?

9:09KonstantinYeah, actually, not really, to be honest. I don't know. I think I've gotten a bit better this time doing the album, like, doing the lyrics. When it comes to the lyrics, I think I like being straightforward when it comes to the lyrics. So it wasn't too hard doing that, actually, to be honest.

9:23HostIs it, is it, is this, like, a therapy for you? Or, like, how close should we read the lyrics? Are we going Joey Division and knowing about, like, the, the, the horrible shit?

9:34KonstantinShould we pay, like, for real? I don't think it's that bad. I don't know. I'm not sure. But, like, I don't know. It's, it's just, like, a lot of them, like, for example, like, it feels like the end is the last song of the album and lyrics were, like, already written before the song actually happened. And so that was just, like, something that was on my mind. It was, like, a little poem thing I wrote.

9:54HostSo the lyrics came before the music?

9:59MaximFor example, I think we have more songs where the lyrics came, like, partially before we wrote the song. Normally, normally. For example, like, a chorus kind of melody you had, like, it was never a poem.

10:16KonstantinJust for example, that was just, like, random thoughts I had. Waking up, I would just, like, write it, write it down. And then somehow we had that one song. And I was, like, I got some lyrics for that, actually. We can use that. And then, I don't know, it just glued together.

10:32MaximAnd, like, at every session we, like, wrote one piece. Like, one song. And then it was basically done. Like, we just had one session where we had to rework it, rearrange it. Because we liked the song, but it wasn't there yet. It was just one song. And the other songs, like, got done in a day. Each song.

10:47?Yeah, true, true, true.

10:48HostHow long, how long did it take to write this album? Like, I mean, we've seen each other more than a year. I guess you were doing this all this time. Like, when was the album ready, actually?

11:00?December last year.

11:04MatejBut you have to, that's, that's, actually, at this point, I want, if your listeners can answer this question, why does this always take so long? We always wonder. But then you don't know the stuff, like, vinyl printings, fucking, you gotta book this place, you gotta book Flex way ahead, you gotta take care of a lot of shit. And so, it was done, yeah, it was done 10 months ago, almost, like, which is kind of crazy. But we've been releasing, we've been releasing shit anyway, so it's not like, we've not putting, we've not been putting it out there. But, yeah.

11:33HostYeah, you needed to make vinyl music videos, book a fucking tour, book. So, the next tour, right? Like, in March, you have some, you haven't, I heard something that you have a tour, but you didn't say anything about it.

11:46MaximYeah, we haven't announced it officially, but it's like, in March, we're going to Germany.

11:52HostAll right. Is it the same places, like, before, or something different?

11:55MatejHamburg is sure now, in Hebenbrücken or something, I don't know, sorry, the venue name, I butchered that. Hebebühne. Hebebühne, yeah. So, Hamburg is for sure. Steyr, that's in Austria. A lot of dates. Yeah, that's for sure. Berlin is for sure now, as well. But, yeah, check out our fucking website or, like, our Instagram page and whatever, and we'll post it there always. Not yet, but in a few weeks, they're going to be there, the dates.

12:20HostWell, yeah, I mean, you just released your album, finally, yesterday, once again. Congrats, you know, like, you still, I mean, still have a gig to do, to play today, so.

12:31HostAll right, so, okay, so, which means, okay, 10 months ago, right? So, you're already working on the new material, you already have some stuff, right? What's up with that? I mean, new material came out yesterday, right? But you're pretty working on the new, new material. Can you say something about it?

12:58MaximWe had, like, a lot of live shit this summer and a lot of live shows in autumn. So, we have, like, been on the road for, like, a long time.

13:08HostAre you going to change anything in the sound based on response to this album?

13:14MatejI can tell you what an idea is. The cover of whatever the project is, is yellow and black. Yellow and black. That's the only thing we, like, hooked it up. It's just in Akumi. We don't have to do it, but it's going to be yellow and black. Trust, mark my words here.

13:39MaximI consent.

13:42HostYeah, well, be careful regarding the promises, because I already had the experience when I interviewed the band and they publicly promised. In the end, two years later, they kept the promises even cooler.

13:54MatejBut, you know, it would probably be yellow and black.

14:00HostProbably, yes. Assumingly, if nothing happens, if all goes according to the plan.

14:12KonstantinYeah, well, like, I don't know, like, we haven't really decided the sound yet, but we're working on some demos for sure. And I think, like, after this show, we're definitely going to go back in the studio and doing things, so. Right after the show. Right after the show, this, tonight.

14:34?Bedroom studio. Yeah.

14:36KonstantinIt's a bedroom studio, to be fair. This is how you do it these days. Yeah, to be fair, actually, this album was also recorded in my bedroom as well, so we recorded the drums in the proper studio. But other from that, we actually did it in the bedroom and in a living room often somewhere else.

14:52HostI saw on social media you have, you post from, is it rehearsal space where all of you are, like, in white backgrounds with a carpet?

15:00?Yeah.

15:04?They love us.

15:05MaximWe owe so much to Karen and Peter. Yeah, they're great.

15:10HostSo just put more carpets and make it pretty, and a couple more years, it's a good...

15:16KonstantinYeah, the thing is, they got used to it, and also they're also getting older, so it's all right. They don't hear it anymore anyway, so it's cool.

15:26MatejWe have in-ear stuff now as well, so it's not that loud as it used to be.

15:31HostYou're not doing monitors on stage anymore, some of you, or no?

15:37MaximWe're doing in-ear stuff. I don't know if it's professional. Dave Grohl said you never get the best sound within this.

15:48HostBut do you hear the audience? Do you get the mix-in of the audience?

15:52KonstantinYeah, sometimes I take them out, actually, to hear that.

15:54?Really?

15:55MatejI can't. It's a good idea to actually send in an audience mic or something that's actually quite smart.

16:01MaximBro, I actually told Alex in Munich. When we played in Munich, I was like, bro. Or sound guy. Yeah, sound guy. Alex, big shout out. I told him, bro, I need some audience mics. I was kind of drunk. And I was like, bro, I need some audience mics. Left and right, I need to hear it. Day after, I was like, bro, I don't have that many inputs.

16:22MaximHe would have. He was like, all right, if you want that, he's a sweetheart. He's a sweetheart.

16:32HostLike, I mean, when I interviewed guys, some have specific left and right microphones with a stereo to have feedback.

16:39?Yeah.

16:40MaximI don't have that many inputs on my interface for my in-ear, so I can't.

16:49HostBuy the album. Vinyl is available, right? You also have vinyl, right? And all kinds of stuff, right?

16:55KonstantinYeah, we got fresh T-shirts as well. And we just, the vinyl's literally just arrived. So, like, we're so pipe, it looks fresh and clean. It's white. Also, the T-shirts came. It's white.

17:05?It's white.

17:06MaximThe vinyl is white. Yeah, white. Yeah, man, it's great.

17:08HostAll right, guys. Don't want to, like, bother you too much. I think we got the most important information. Album just arrived by the vinyl. Tour is going to be in March.

17:26HostMost importantly, come to the gigs and enjoy the live show. The music is great. Seeing live, guys are giving it all in on stage. Yeah, guys, I wish you all the best. Which song should I put at the end of the interview? A good introduction to the band.

17:41KonstantinWe're Glaze Curtains, and you're listening to our new single and album, Gustyphobia.

17:45?I'm seriously Pers riddled.
