0:11?Welcome to Interceptor Beyond Podcast. My name is Arthur and today we have two bands. One called Lurch, that is based in Vienna, Austria. And another one is called Aptera and is based in Berlin, Germany. Super cool bands and really nice people. Recorded at Fenster. Julian the photographer was also there and is present on the recording. The interview with Lurch was recorded before the shows and outside. And the interview with Aptera was recorded after the shows, inside. Don't forget to follow this podcast on Spotify or any platform if you dig it. And don't forget to rate the show on Spotify and have a podcast. And follow this podcast on Instagram at Interceptor Beyond. Alright, let's talk to Lurch. Marie, pass. Miriam, guitar.
0:58LurchPauline, guitar, vocals.
1:00?Eva, the drums.
1:02HostLurch, okay. I tried to get you on the interview for a long time. There was nothing going on. There were some other reasons. Now, you have released a demo.
1:13LurchWhat other reasons? I don't know. You said you've heard some other reasons?
1:19?True.
1:22HostActually, there is only one situation when I asked you and then you said not yet.
1:28LurchTrue, true, true.
1:30HostBecause there was no music online.
1:31?Exactly.
1:32HostAnd now you have music online. The demo is out. I liked this, especially the second song and the third song. What's the name of the songs and what's the name of the album? Demo.
1:42?The name of the demo is Demo.
1:45LurchIt's called Demo. And the first song is called Ten. The second is Croc Madame.
1:51?Croc Madame. Yeah. Croc Madame. It's called Madame. Croc Madame.
1:57LurchCroc Madame. Croc Madame. It's French. And the last one is called Shooter.
2:01HostYeah, so I really enjoyed it. Alright. So, there's not much info online. First of all, it was really hard to find out the names of the band. You only have basic info without anything on Bandcamp. There's no names on Bandcamp.
2:18?Yeah.
2:19HostYeah, you should fix that.
2:21?Why?
2:21HostBecause, for example, for this interview, I didn't know the names of the people.
2:26LurchYou asked us our names, we told you.
2:29HostYeah, but it's easier for in the future, like when we know the names. So, I can, for example...
2:35LurchLet's say, now you know. Now you know our names.
2:37HostNow it's too late.
2:38LurchThe only important name that you need to know is Lurch.
2:41HostLurch. What does it mean for the non-German speakers?
2:45LurchDust. It's dust. It's the average dust that is assembling underneath the bed or underneath the couch that is becoming bigger and bigger and looking like a cloud. That's a good explanation, actually. And in German, it's also a synonym for amphibia. So, amphibia basically means Lurch in Nudes. In Austria.
3:06?St. Nudes.
3:07LurchSt. Nudes.
3:08?St. Nudes. St. Nudes. St. Nudes.
3:11LurchSo, frogs and, you know, amphibia. And Feuer Salamander is a very typical Lurch. No, but Salamander is not a Lurch. Oh, no. It's the stage before a frog is a frog. Let's ask the biologist. Let's ask her. Yeah, no. Who said?
3:27HostI knew that you're some kind of biologist. Like, what kind of situations you were not available. I could feel their scientific mind.
3:35?Okay.
3:36HostWhat are your sources? Proofs?
3:39LurchNot a coincidence.
3:41HostAll right. Okay. Okay. Okay. There's not much information online. So, you need to tell me. We need to do the basic Wikipedia thing. So, tell me how you got together. Because there's no info outside. Okay.
3:53LurchI can tell that story. Because I started playing the drums when I was like 25. And I was living in Vienna together with Miriam, who is our guitarist. And Miriam has been playing the traditional guitar, classical guitar, like forever, basically. And then when I started playing the drums, she also started to play the electric guitar so that we could form a band someday. And then we spent like a lot of evenings together in the rehearsal room. I was practicing the drums, etc. I was practicing the guitar. And it was very nice because Eva's mom bought her when she was 13 or so. A very crappy, I don't know, you know, Fender Strat duplicate from Hofer or something. And then she said, so Eva, I'm using now your children's room. And so I'm getting rid of this guitar. And she said, yes, Miriam can use it. And that was the guitar that I had. What were they called? The Hofer guitars? Golden tone. Golden tone. Golden tone. And it's not golden tone. It is not.
4:53HostIt's a perfect start. That's where you found your little sound.
4:57LurchExactly. And then we started to look for, you know, other band members. And I don't know, how did we get to know Paul Hordyne at the birthday party? Yeah, it was our friend's birthday party. It was his 30th birthday, I think. And then, you know. It's Hannes from Wright. Hannes from Wright, by the way. Shout out. Shout out to him.
5:18LurchWe love you. And then our friend Arik, who is actually, who was the singer and guitar player of Pastor. Shout out to him as well. And who used to play guitar and write. And now plays in Bamshelter. Yeah. And now plays in Bamshelter. Sings, plays with the voice. And then Arik introduced me to Eva and Miriam. And then, like, two weeks later, we started jamming. And then, yeah. Then we played without bass for a long time. And it was super boring. Yeah, almost a year. And it was super boring. And then we decided to start looking for someone who can play the bass with us. And then also, like, another friend of ours, he was like, well, I know someone. Like, you know, she could fit into your band. And so we started playing with Marie.
6:06?Marie. That's me.
6:08LurchWhich is the pearl.
6:12LurchYou don't know that we call you like this. You're the host. Yeah, so far since 2019, we're a four-piece band. And, yeah, that's it. And for some months, we played without a proper band name. So, at some point, we started brainstorming. And Diana suggested Lurch. But everyone just, like, kind of started calling us Lurch. But it's cooler anyway. It's kind of more punk. So, yeah.
6:43HostSo, what's the official pronunciation of Lurch slash Lurch?
6:48?It's Lurch.
6:49HostBecause I didn't know, dude, you did, what's the name of the Lurch band?
6:55LurchThe name of the band? Lurch. No, no, how would you pronounce it?
6:59?What?
6:59HostYeah, correct. Lurch. So, now it's an official name. Thank you very much.
7:04?Lurch. You heard. Right now.
7:07LurchYou already knew because we all said.
7:09?I know what Lurch is.
7:12LurchExplain Lurch in your own words.
7:16LurchIf, yeah, you don't clean your flat for three weeks and then you wipe over the floor and then you look at it and then you go like, ah, I should make a band.
7:29?Exactly. Yeah.
7:30HostAnd it should be, like, really, like, this doomy and with, like...
7:36LurchNo, it's self-depreciation.
7:37?Self-depreciation. Self-depreciation.
7:39LurchAnd it needs to be, like, dirt, you know, dirty, like, like, gross and, like, how do you say it, like...
7:45?Yeah.
7:46LurchDusty. Dusty. A lot of dust.
7:48?A lot of dust. A lot of dust.
7:49LurchNo, it's, like, it's a lot of dust, basically.
7:53HostSo, I can imagine, like, a poster from 10 years, they're looking at this poster of your band and instead of cocaine on the mirror, you have Lurch in straight lines.
8:05?Everywhere.
8:05LurchYeah, it's cheaper.
8:08LurchThat's for sure. Everyone has it.
8:10HostAll right, let's come back to the demo.
8:13LurchAnd you would rather get rid of it instead of, like, collect it.
8:18HostWhat's the process behind the demo? As far as I know, you're independent at the moment.
8:25LurchIndependent? Independent.
8:26?Yes, we are.
8:27LurchEverything we did so far is very DIY. We recorded it live in our rehearsal room with a good friend of ours who... Goody, shout out to Goody. Shout out to Goody. Our favorite, you know, sound technician and he did all the recording stuff with us.
8:45LurchYeah, so we recorded it live in the rehearsal room and that's it. We did it in summer, back in summer. Yeah, because it's DIY, it took also a very long time.
8:57HostWhy it took, why it takes a long time? What, you didn't know what to do?
9:01LurchBecause Goody also did the Speck album, recorded the Speck album, right? Yeah, it worked a lot and we also, and we did not take, I don't know, you know, time flies when you're busy. And so this, once in a while we forgot about it and then we ticked it out again and then we, yeah, it took some time.
9:18?Yeah.
9:18HostHow serious are you about this band at the moment?
9:22LurchVery serious. Very serious, but we all have jobs as well.
9:25HostIt's not an excuse.
9:27LurchIt is, absolutely. No, no, no, no, the band is the best thing in, well, in my life, I would say. Same, same. So, I take everything seriously, everything I do I take very seriously. But, of course, you know, we have a lot of fun with it and we're not super stressed with, like, recording an album or something. That's not it.
9:47HostWell, I ask you, I ask you this because, like, when was the last time I asked you? Was it, like, a year ago, half a year ago when I was, like, asking for an interview? The Hippie Death Cult when they were playing.
9:58LurchInterviews are not our priority, but, like, we take our band seriously if that's the question.
10:03HostAnd then, at that point, you had no music online and it took you some time to put it online. Finally, which happened quite recently, actually. When was it? In March.
10:14LurchSometime in March.
10:15HostAnd I listened to it, it's really good, actually. And also, in the beginning, you were in an instrumental band and slowly something happened.
10:23LurchYes, we decided to also have some lyrics because there's shitty stuff going on in the world that you need to sing about. Yeah. And Pauline writes, like, really, really good texts. Thank you. I try sometimes. I do.
10:40?Yeah, I know.
10:41LurchBut still, most of our songs are instrumental, right? And we also plan to keep it that way, like, only sometimes put lyrics in our songs and then, you know, we kind of go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens. And if we write a song and there's no lyrics, there's no lyrics. So, yeah.
10:59HostOkay, so you have a demo. What's the plan now? What are you going to do with this demo? Are you shopping for the label or you want to be completely independent, fuck authority and all that kind of stuff?
11:12LurchThat's a good question.
11:14?Have you talked about it?
11:15LurchThere's no need for a label for the demo, I think.
11:19?No. For the demo? No.
11:20LurchBut I think, like, when we record an album, I don't know, like, a label would be nice, but it's also not, like, a super priority right now. I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. Whatever happens, happens. Playing and finding the songs and writing the songs and then recording them. It's all things that we will do on our own. We don't need nobody for this and then we will see, I guess.
11:43HostSo, what's the next step? You released this demo. You want to go on tour, I guess. Do you want to go on tour? Can you go on tour?
11:50LurchWell, this year we were playing a lot of shows already, like, in summer and in autumn already. We have a lot of shows lined up, so I don't think that we're going to go on tour. Maybe, I don't know, record an album sometime, like, end of this year or beginning of next year.
12:04HostSo, okay, potential labels can already start to figure out when your album is going to come out, which is if they're going to record plus three months, plus, like, half next year, summer.
12:17?Yes. Summer, please. Yes.
12:20LurchSo, Thomas from Stonefree, hit us up.
12:23LurchWhenever you have time. Call me on my cell phone, Thomas.
12:29LurchIn my DMs, Thomas, tell us. No, there's already too many people in my DMs. Please call me.
12:37HostWell, I don't want to disrespect Thomas, but there are some other people right now who are listening to this podcast who also are in the label business and also know what I'm talking about.
12:48LurchI mean, whoever wants to, you know, it was just, like, Thomas is a friend of ours. We like him a lot, so it was, yeah.
12:54HostYeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, no. Shout out to Thomas, to Stonefree. Oh, no, everything there. No, everything's cool. I'm just saying that it's not only one. And maybe there's going to be a battle for your music, for your album. Do you want that? If the album, if the label says, okay, we have an album, it's time for a tour, can you do that?
13:14?Yes, I think so. Your day jobs?
13:16LurchWell, I'm starting a new job in a few weeks, actually, and then I'm going to have a lot of time, so it's not... You have to ask the others.
13:24HostTwo weeks, two weeks tour. Can we do two weeks tour?
13:26LurchYes, please. Yes, please.
13:29HostWhere would you want to go for a tour? Austria, neighboring countries, Marie?
13:36?Well, I...
13:36HostGive me a scientific answer.
13:39LurchNo, there's no scientific answer to that.
13:41HostYou can, based on statistics.
13:44LurchI played last year in Slovenia and in Croatia and in Hungary, and it was really a great tour. Crowd was really nice, and I'd really like for us to go there as well.
13:56HostAll right, so we have potential. All right, so demo is out, you want to record an album soon, if tour is there. Are you going to release some new music in the near future?
14:10LurchOh, in the near future? No, I don't think so.
14:14LurchBesides... I don't think so, but we will play a new song tonight, so... Oh!
14:20LurchNew song! We just finished writing it five minutes ago, so...
14:25?We've never played it.
14:26LurchWe've never played it before. Super fresh.
14:28?Nice. Super fresh.
14:29LurchFresh at the oven.
14:31HostNice, I'm going to pirate it and I'll pull it online. No, of course not. Look, okay, thank you very much. What... Which song should I put at the end of this interview? A good introduction to your band, which is available online, of course. Unless you want to send me an...
14:47LurchSince Radio FM4 already played two of our songs, maybe you'd take Shooter.
14:51?Yeah. Yeah. Why not? Nice get brought. Fairness.
14:55LurchJust know. So he gets a chance.
14:57?Yeah. She.
14:59LurchShe gets her chance.
15:01HostAnd one of you, please say the name of this song with emotion and attitude. One of you.
15:08?Shooter!
15:10LurchPerfect.
15:12HostAlmost perfect, like it's like clipped a little bit, but fine. Perfect.
20:17?Thanks, Lurg. And now let's talk to Aptera.
20:19ApteraHi, I'm Sarah. I'm the drummer from Aptera.
20:22MichaelaI'm Michaela, guitar and vocals.
20:25CeliaI'm Celia, and I'm the bass player.
20:28RenataI'm Renata, I'm the guitarist.
20:31HostFirst of all, thank you very much for the show, because we're recording right now, right after your show at 10st, 1991, not 99, whatever. And it was great. The people really enjoyed it. The energy was through the roof. Thank you very much. How do you feel?
20:50ApteraI feel good. It was a really good crowd. I mean, we just played three shows in Italy, which were great shows, but sometimes the crowd didn't move very much.
21:00?Italy?
21:00ApteraIt was Northern Italy. They were really good crowds.
21:03HostNorthern Italy are fine, but sometimes...
21:06ApteraThey said awesome things afterwards, but they were pretty still when observing. And here, the crowd was like super dancing and moving, and it really helped to give us energy.
21:14HostYou're on tour, on European tour. This is... Which show is it at the moment?
21:19CeliaIt's a seventh show, man. It's like we are doing eight shows in a row, and today is a seventh show. And of course, yeah, the other day was like a different crowd, but it was really good. And yeah, today I think it's a bit of a highlight for us. Also playing with Lush, who were amazing playing on stage, like super groovy and everything. I mean, it was a really good time, and the people, I feel there is a good energy here.
21:53?Anyway.
21:54HostSo, you're on tour. What else are you going to tour? Which cities? What's left?
22:00?Prague.
22:01ApteraPrague's our last show tomorrow at Balada.
22:03HostLast show. And then you're going home to Berlin.
22:06ApteraThat's right. And then we have some other shows in end of April and May. We're going to be in Copenhagen and Malmo and Gothenburg. June we have an exciting show that we can't announce yet.
22:18HostWhat was the biggest stage you played so far?
22:22CeliaThe biggest stage? With Lido in Berlin? With Nervosa. With Nervosa. Was this cool?
22:29RenataYeah, Thresh Metal. I'm originally from Brazil, and we opened for them in Lido in Berlin. Well, it was quite a big stage.
22:38?A thousand people. Guar? Guar.
22:41ApteraThe Guar stage was bigger. We opened for Guar. You opened for Guar?
22:46RenataYeah, we opened for them in SO36. Yeah, it was also a big stage, and I would play with a big band. Yeah. It was crazy. Yeah.
22:57CeliaSuper nice people in the band. I mean, the singer, the guitarists were really cool people.
23:06HostYou mean the Guar people?
23:07ApteraYeah. Yeah, yeah.
23:09HostThat's what I heard. They're really nice people. Like, super professional, really nice.
23:13ApteraIn July, we're going to be with Krypta, which was like, back in the day when Nervosa had a different lineup, Krypta was one, it was the, sorry, the bassist was in Nervosa. Now she's the singer and bassist of Krypta. So it's kind of an interesting coming full circle. But these are like really big bands for us, because obviously it's super important for us to see other women playing metal and to play with them too, which was also why tonight was like a highlight of the tour.
23:37CeliaAnd we're a friend from the practice room with Anticorpus, no? Yeah, they're a band also originally from Brazil and they are all playing in the same practice place. That is also a Flinta place, really important. And, um, yeah, I mean, it's so nice to share the stage with them and with Krypta. I mean, it's like amazing. Might be a bit polemic in the end. That's Lurch.
24:11?Lurch like totally killed it tonight.
24:13ApteraWe didn't know them at all before we organized this show. It was like a connection from another friend's band.
24:18MichaelaI knew them. I, um, I propose the organizer this, like to play with Lurch because another band from Austria, I think recommended them, or I don't know, somehow I listened to them before. And then I wrote to Rebecca and I said, Hey, can we play with this band? And she was like, yeah, that's what I was also thinking about. So we had the same idea and we're super happy. I think, um, when we play with other, you know, female or Flinta bands, uh, I don't know, there is something special about it, about the whole evening. And also I think Lurch are great musicians. Their show was mind blowing.
24:58HostYou just released, uh, last year an album. How was the experience? Because it's your second album.
25:05ApteraSir. Yeah, go ahead.
25:07MichaelaNo, we have a demo actually that we, an EP, let's call it EP. We recorded in 2019, uh, six songs. And we recorded it, like it was a DIY recording with a person we, we know in Berlin. And then we only put it online on Bandcamp, but actually this is through this, uh, EP that ripple music found us, like the, the label that press the current, uh, LP and yeah, we recorded it in 2021, so we kind of wrote it during, you know, the lockdown and also recorded during it. And, uh, yeah, and then it was, um, pressed by ripple music.
25:51HostIt's a big deal. Uh, how did you, uh, tell me a little bit about the production of this album. Recorded where in Berlin, with whom and how was it?
26:00CeliaAh, with Jan, he didn't plan a studio and yeah, he didn't plan a studio and yeah, amazing person and he did a amazing job with, uh, for all a week.
26:14RenataYeah, it was a very hot week in Berlin, actually in summer, like the hottest week of the year. And yeah, we just, uh, literally gave our sweats to, to make that album happen.
26:26HostWhen was, which year, last year, uh, 2020?
26:29Aptera2021, yeah, and then, uh, released in 2022.
26:35?Yeah.
26:36HostWait a second. So you're, you exist since 2018, I think.
26:41?18. 18.
26:42ApteraWe're five years old now. This is almost our little five-year birthday celebration. We, we formed in, I guess, March. Yeah, like late March of 2018. And then we came, we were supposed to have our first tour, April of 2020. Obviously that didn't happen. So three years later, yeah, we, here we are. It's our first proper tour, um, after five years.
27:03?So that's it.
27:04HostHow come you come, came together for a band? Just like, it's like the classic story. You asked, you answered like many times, I know.
27:12MichaelaYeah, it's a good question. And yeah, we always love to tell this story. Maybe we can also tell it together. So the three of us, Renata, Celia, and I, we kind of already, uh, knew each other from, I guess we have, we had friends in common in Berlin. We kind of all knew that we all played, we had other projects, but we never really, uh, we didn't really know each other that well. And then back in end of 2017, Renata came to me and, uh, she sent me a message and she told me that she wanted to start a new band. And then she played guitar and was looking for other members. And I said, cool. Yes, why not? And, uh, we both, uh, also knew Celia and we, we knew she was playing bass in a band also friends at the time. And so we started jamming, I think, end of 2017, beginning of 2018 in this, um, rehearsal room that we were talking about before. It's a Flinta collective. And, uh, then we, of course, we needed a drummer and we, we also were not really singing back then. We were jamming some riffs and, uh, we were all on the same page about the genre we wanted to play. And then, uh, we contacted a few drummers and we said, why not also finding like a female drummer and, uh, but actually the plans didn't work out. So people didn't have time or they just didn't show up on the day. And then one day, uh, we were in the practice room on a Sunday afternoon in, I think it was the 10th of March, 2018. And then someone knocks on the door and it was another person who said, hey, do you guys have a drummer or need a drummer? Because my friend or bandmate Sarah is here, we heard you and she's a good drummer and we like your music. Yeah, why not? Actually, no one showed up today, so we still have no drummer. And then Sarah opens the door, takes her stick, she sits down, she plays with us and we were, I think we jammed like 15 minutes that day.
29:25CeliaBut for me it was sounding like just amazing, like, just like everything is throwing.
29:32RenataIt was crazy because we were so bummed because this person that was supposed to come and jam with us as a, like a drummer, she never came and then she bailed on us. And then it was like, we were in the end of the rehearsal, like she just, Sarah just comes in and just started like banging her drums like a, like a crazy person. And we're like, oh my God, this is amazing, like really, I got emotional. I never, I got emotional. It was amazing.
30:01CeliaMagic, pure magic. Pure magic.
30:03MichaelaYeah, and also like imagine the coincidence, you know, what if we weren't there at that time? Like, you know, it's like a crazy coincidence, but yeah, one of the best kinds, I would say.
30:15ApteraI was just jamming with another bassist, my friend Marina, and I heard them through the wall because there's two rooms that are collective shares. So I was in one of the two rooms, they were in the other one. I was like, who the hell is this? Because no one really was playing metal in that collective. So I was just like, what the fuck? Who is, who's in there? And I came, I brought my snare drum and came in and it was just, that was it. That was the first day.
30:37HostSo you just basically, okay, just as usual, it's a coincidence. So what's the plan right now? So recording new material.
30:48RenataYeah, we would love also to, in between, also release these songs that we have, they're quite good. I mean, people like really dig it and we would love also to record it and at least release it like as singles.
31:06ApteraOr maybe a split. A split. It was somebody from Berlin?
31:10CeliaSome high D that came between the show with another band that we love a lot and also from Berlin. From Karlsruhe, Colthein. Yeah.
31:23ApteraColthein.
31:24HostOh, shout out to Colthein. Yeah, yeah.
31:26RenataWe played three concerts with them together. Like now, last time in our tour, also in Nuremberg. And yeah, we just have like awesome chemistry and, you know, and then we are friends.
31:39CeliaSo now, Colthein, if you hear this interview one day, we have to make a split. We have no choice anymore.
31:47ApteraIt's official. It's official. It's public.
31:50?No, I'm pretty sure you're going to do that. So you're going to do a split. Then you're going to do a live album. No, no, no.
32:00ApteraA record will happen. A full album, a full album.
32:04MichaelaWe also have a lot of shows coming up. Okay, which one? Well, we have one in, well, tomorrow we play in Prague. Too late. It's the last date of the tour. Then we have a show in Potsdam.
32:17?When?
32:19ApteraApril 22nd. Good.
32:21MichaelaThen another one in Berlin. End of May 24th. And then we have a weekend in Scandinavia. We're going to play with the band Nightmare. Maybe we said this before. So it's also like metal rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. They are also for women. They have more or less our same also, let's say, structure set up. And we are playing in Copenhagen. Then on the 26th of May in Ungdom Suzet. Malmö the day after, 27th at Pedaler's Kitchen. And then on May 28th in Gothenburg, 128A is the name of the place. And then Krypta in Berlin, July 14th. And then we have some shows also coming up in autumn and winter. Coming back September 2nd to Linz. The festival, yeah, in Linz.
33:21HostJesus, it sounds like you're doing the booking yourself.
33:25ApteraYeah. It doesn't seem. We are doing it ourselves. Super DIY.
33:28MichaelaEverything is DIY, man. Everything is DIY. I mean, this tour, we organized it completely. And actually, we were planning to do this in April 2020. But as you all know, it was not possible. But back then, we also already had something like six dates already planned. And then obviously, we have to cancel it. So this, you know, this was something that we really, we have been wanting to do since three years. And finally, we managed.
33:57HostAnd finally, you are here and it's fucking awesome.
34:00ApteraIt's great.
34:03HostAll right.
34:06HostThank you very much for the show.
34:08ApteraDidn't you want to ask them about their guitars?
34:10?No.
34:11ApteraThat guy wanted it.
34:14HostDo you want me to ask? Like, really?
34:17ApteraI thought he, I thought that was his request.
34:19HostNo, on my show, it's my show. I don't ask her about the guitars.
34:24ApteraYou can edit that out, please.
34:26HostI don't. I'm not going to edit this out because it's gold.
34:30ApteraWhat's about guitar? He wanted to know about your rapping strings. I want to know about guitar. Yes, hello, hello. What? Yeah, well, I want to go back to this SG thing. Like, did, did.
34:43RenataI don't know. It looks like a 70s ashtray. But it's beautiful. And, yeah.
34:49?I was like.
34:50ApteraNo, no. The bridge of my guitar. Yeah, the bridge. The bridge is funny. I had someone telling me this and I was kind of like, I found it funny. And, yeah. You said there was some guy building your instruments, right? Yeah, yeah. Dude, listen. Listen, they have custom instruments. Hello.
35:08CeliaActually, I can't tell about the instrument because actually it's a really, really good friend of mine. And also my guitar player of my other band, Arde, a black metal atmospheric band. And Imo is building our guitar from Michaela. So my guitar, so her bass and my guitar. And the name is Whitehall Guitars. Yeah.
35:36ApteraWhitehall. Whitehall. Owl. Owl. Sorry. Yeah, no idea. Sorry. Guitars.
35:42?And, yeah, he's great. He builds instruments from scratch, custom-made. And, yeah, they sound amazing, look amazing. So highly recommended.
35:55CeliaHe's a really precise person. And I think he tried to understand what the person and the character is. And it's really building an instrument that is all what you would like to have. I mean, I just give him the idea about my golden bass. And for me, it's like I'm a super fan of jazz bass, Fender jazz bass. And, but I like the style of the Fender Precision from 51. So together we build this idea of putting these two together and make it gold. Because I like this gold color. Like flashy shit.
36:43ApteraFlashy shit, yeah. That's what she's into.
36:46CeliaBecause I like to wear black, so I like to have something that's coming out from me. And, yeah, I mean, the idea was, yeah, it's my signature bass anyway. So, I mean, with IMO and with Whitehall guitar, if you really want to have a super nice costume-made guitar, just talk with him and you're going to have really your dream in your hands.
37:16ApteraThat was a...
37:18HostI'll cut it out anyway, so.
37:22HostNo, I don't know yet. We'll see how it goes.
37:25ApteraSo, Celia had a chance to plug Arda. I'm going to plug Melodeath and Suratma too. Do you want to hear more of what I'm doing?
37:31HostFuck, now I have to keep all this inside. Because everybody's plugging everybody. I don't want to be cruel. Want to plug some?
37:39RenataNo, I actually, Aptera is my first band, so I don't have anything else.
37:45HostWhat's your experience with Aptera as a first band? Ever? First band ever?
37:50RenataYeah, I mean, when I was a kid, I had like some couple of garage bands, but I just, I don't know, I played like three chords, but I started with Aptera basically.
38:00HostYeah, yeah, yeah, but how is it with these people?
38:04ApteraIt's a nightmare. No, well, I mean, this, yeah.
38:09HostPretend they're not here.
38:10ApteraOkay, okay, so.
38:12RenataNo, man, we, I mean, I always say they're my longest relationship and, yeah, and it's fruitful and successful and we always try to, you know, respect each other in, like, have the same voice, especially when you're writing music, to have, like, a more seamless and democratic process. In a, in a, in a way that, in a way that, for example, we, when we compose, everybody has the same voice in the process and so we, we keep this, this balance as, as a very, like, important dynamic on the band. So even, like, when we forget who brought, which riff, like, also Sarah is also not our drummer. She's also, like, playing guitar. So everybody's bringing riffs and, yeah, so this is, it's really great. I'm, I'm, I'm kind of very proud of, of us in that sense, that we, that we manage to always keep creative and, and keep, like, you know, it's not, like, the majority of people that want something and one doesn't want, um, it's, it's, like, if someone is not comfortable or is not happy with something, then we don't do it. It doesn't matter if it's the majority or not. So this is, like, what it keeps, uh, keep it real for us. Very fair.
39:31HostIs it scary to play with them?
39:34ApteraUh, no. It's scary to sleep next to them.
39:42HostI knew there's something scary about them.
39:45?Uh, I want to thank you very much for the show.
39:48HostI wish you all the best with the upcoming rest of the tour and with the, uh, upcoming future release, let's say it. Like this. Uh, which song should I play at the end of this interview? A good introduction to your band. Our choice.
40:06ApteraUnbearable stain. Another band that clipped the fucking levels.
44:32?Thank you, Aptera. And thank you, dear listener, for staying till the end. Don't forget to follow this podcast right now. If you dig it, more stuff to come. Until next time, take care and bye.
