The idea

The first feature-length animation and first music video made under Interceptor Beyond. Boundary’s wild brief became a three-act grindhouse western built from drawings, photography, collage, and character rigs.

Behind the work

Production notes.

01

Turn the band into a monster squad.

Five members became five colour-coded characters, mixing Power Rangers and The Monster Squad with a ram from hell. Photographic faces work like masks on hand-drawn, rigged bodies.

02

Make the town feel assembled.

The main characters were drawn, while the villagers and Babylon were constructed as unruly photo collages. Monty Python animation, grindhouse humour, and practical reference studies shaped the movement.

03

Hide more inside the chaos.

Hands, eyes, long fingers, tiny props, and film references form a second layer inside the finished animation. The making-of film reveals more of that construction.

The first feature animation

This was the first long animation and first music video created under Interceptor Beyond. Boundary’s intentionally excessive brief called for a ram from hell, blood, fights, strange outlaws, and the beauty of an apocalyptic west. The story follows a colour-coded gang corrupting a town before discovering that the apparently vulnerable girl is the greater demon.

02 / Process log

Monty Python meets grindhouse

Monty Python collage supplied the animation logic and grindhouse cinema supplied the violence and humour. The phrase “viking in pink” suggested Power Rangers and The Monster Squad, turning five band members into five visually distinct characters. Their bodies were drawn and rigged with DUIK, while photographic faces preserved the real members and worked like masks.

Building Babylon

The central characters are hand-drawn; the villagers and Babylon combine deliberately mismatched photographic pieces. Locomotion references, hands, eyes, teeth, shoes, bottles, monsters, and dozens of small drawings build the town’s unstable material language. The linked making-of film reveals more of the character layers, rigs, scene construction, and easter eggs.

Build the outlaw world

All 59 surviving references, drawings, character studies, rigs, locomotion tests, collage pieces, scene builds and finished animation fragments from the original process page. Together they trace the production from the band’s brief through the colour-coded monster squad, Babylon, the final composite and the hidden references.
