The idea
Pablo Infernal asked for a wild ride through hell. Research into witchcraft, torture devices, historical paintings, tarot, anime, and popular depictions of the underworld became a dense animated journey.
Behind the work
01
Hans Memling, Hieronymus Bosch, Häxan, testimony from 1692, and a seventeenth-century book of charms supplied the visual archaeology of the underworld.
02
The closet uses medieval devices and ritual objects; the book draws from Tarot de Marseille; the action borrows its velocity from Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s anime films.
03
Dante’s three-faced devil became a four-faced creature using the band members, with faces on its arms and eleven eyes. A peaceful Windows XP landscape frames the descent.
The original production notes

01 / Process log
Pablo Infernal asked for a psychotropic ride through hell. Research crossed popular culture, witchcraft, medieval punishment, demonology, and painting. Hans Memling’s Last Judgement and Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delights established the density of the underworld, while a skull inside a shark jaw came from Häxan.
02 / Process log
The heroine’s closet uses the Breaking Wheel, Shrew’s Fiddle, the Hand of a Hanged Man, chains, nails, and ritual herbs. The book sequence draws from Tarot de Marseille, Joseph Ring’s 1692 testimony about meeting a witch, and a seventeenth-century Book of Magical Charms.
03 / Process log
Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s Wicked City, Cyber City Oedo 808, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust informed the action. Christina Ricci inspired the heroine’s face and practical hair length. Dante’s three-faced devil became a creature carrying all four band members’ faces, more faces on its arms, and eleven eyes. A peaceful Windows XP-like landscape frames the opening and closing.
